Just Eat is changing it's model. The decision of a huge international company that scraps worker's rights and lowers the wages. All for profitability! They want to establish the same model as Uber Eats, where couriers are working under as (falsely called) “independent” sub-contractors. That means concretely: They are minimally insured, have no holidays or fixed pay, are responsible for all costs (Scooters, Bikes, Cars etc. are already responsibility of the couriers). Hundreds of couriers all over switzerland are affected!

This decision has a system: in the last years, courier services have seized operations, mass-layoffs have been called and the competition between the big players Just Eat and Uber Eats has intensified. Only last year, the german branch Lieferando has executed similar measures, laying off thousands. The courier services are concentrating on the duopoly of Just Eat and Uber Eats, which fight for dominance on the market on the backs of the workers. So the workers have to concentrate and unify too! Couriers must organize to develop their their voices and demands, and fight for at least a seat at the table, voicing their opinions and defending their interests. Wether it be working conditions, changing models or a social plan for mass layoffs!

The decision in Geneva and Vaud are clear: a decision by the federal court was put into law there, which confirms a clear dependence between couriers and Uber Eats. That is why Just Eat cannot legally fire the couriers there and employ them as “sub-contractors”, as Uber Eats was forced into giving contracts to couriers too.
